Memorial Day

When most people think of Memorial Day, they think of three day weekends and barbecuing. Do you know why we observe Memorial Day? What is Memorial Day?

Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday that is observed on the last Monday of May (most recently observed today, May 29, 2006). It was formerly known as Decoration Day. This holiday commemorates U.S. men and women who died in military service for their country. It began first to honor Union soldiers who died during the American Civil War. So take a moment today to remember those who have given their lives to fight in wars, both just and unjust. And remember them not as a number, but as individuals -- sons, brothers, fathers, uncles, neighbors, co-workers...
