We need our troops back, George
Is it just me, or is everyone huddled around the TV watching the coverage of the devasting aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. With the increasing violence witnessed in the streets of New Orleans, it's starting to look like a scene out of Black Hawk Down. People are fighting in the streets for food and water. Hospital and elder care facility employees are having to arm themselves to the teeth, to safeguard their supplies and protect themselves and their patients.
This disaster has made two things glaringly apparent. One, what a horrible waste of money the Iraq debacle has become. While President Bush is on TV asking us to make donations to the Red Cross for Hurricane relief, our government is siphoning off billions of dollars to Iraq to rebuild the infrastructure we destroyed in our bombing runs. Two, with residents of New Orleans waving guns and shooting at rescue helicopters, where the hell is our national guard? Isn't Hurricane Katrina the perfect example of why we need and have the National Guard? Isn't it the purpose of the National Guard to provide HOMELAND security, in acts of war, terrorism and natural disaster?
It's time to bring our troops home, George. Our country needs them.
